Latest News about the Gladiator Arena

Molly — Thu, 11/29/2007 - 09:35

We are getting very close to the point where we can start playtesting our new feature, the Gladiator Arena. I am really looking forward to this myself, since among other things it will be a chance of testing out the balance between our classes in a totally controlled environment. It will also be a real test of who is the best PKiller in the game, since the Gladiators will all be the same tier and level. For new players it will mean a chance of getting the feel of how a powerful char works - a sort of sneak preview to PKill.

The Colosseum zone for the Arena itself is finished, and will be put into the Game Port this evening. Special thanks goes to Diandra, who has been helping out with the equipment. The arena has two parts, a 7x5 grid with an attached Spectator's Gallery, and a cellar level of equal size, which is more like a maze. There is also a Gladiator Training School, a Training Arena, and a Gladiator Office with a Gladiator Hall of Fame and a Sponsor's Lounge.

The ranking of the Gladiators, submitted by the players, is also finished, and the overall winner is Wolfric, sponsored by Amber.
Thanks to all the Sponsors for their creative efforts, you've now got yourself a place in the history of 4D. :)

We are still waiting for the Spectator's code to be finished, since it is a bit tricky to avoid too much fight spam. This is what I know is planned so far:
- The Spectator's Gallery will be divided in three sectors, east, center and west.
- From each sector you'll be able to directly 'view' what is going on in the corresponding sector of the Arena. If the fight is carried out in another part, you'll just get limited info, like 'The clanking of weapons can be heard from the east sector'.
- The cellar will also have the info of what is going on there displayed as battle 'sounds'.
- There will also be the option to buy an 'opera-glass', with which you can focus on a particular Gladiator, and follow them around.

More information about the Gladiators and their sponsors will be posted on the website soon.
