Builder of the Month Requirements
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE BUILDER OF THE MONTH AWARD IN 4D
The area must contain minimum 80 unique rooms. (No upper limit).
The zone must have something out of the ordinary to qualify for the BOTM Award. Just another hack'n'slash area, however correctly produced, is not enough. There has to be something to add to the depth; a challenging quest or puzzle, an intriguing background story, or just a special and unusual atmosphere.
Try to make the zone challenging, by using all the extra descs and other special options in the OLC.
Make at least one larger Quest, and make sure the players have to visit different parts of the zone to be able to finish it. Use locked doors with keys spread on challenging mobs, or hidden containers, portals, climb and descend objects.
All quests that use hidden objects must have enough hints in the visible room descs to make it possible for any player to figure out what to do, by just reading the descriptions.
Quests that require verb guessing or cheesy spam scripts from the player's side are badly designed quests.
Minimum 4 lines descriptions in each room. (80 characters/line).
No copied room descs, unless they are part of a maze.
All rooms must have the listen/smell descs set. These descs don't have to be unique, but must make sense.
All directions in which you can walk must have an exit desc.
There should be a minimum of 50 extra descriptions (for rooms) in the area. Each extra description, (describing things in the room), should be a minimum of 2 lines.
Try to use the LOOK BEHIND/ABOVE/UNDER descs often too.
Minimum 2 lines description minimum on each mobile, preferably longer.
Minimum 2 lines of descriptions on all items. Further extra descs should be used if needed.
All objects must have the smell/taste/feel desc set.
Scripts are essential for making a zone come to life. But make sure that the scripts are not spammy and that they cannot be abused by the players in any ways.
Quests should be repeatable, but for a smaller reward after the first time.
If possible, add some random element to the quests, to prevent blabbing.
Powerful Quest rewards should always have a script to prevent players from using it, if they didn't complete the quest on their own.
The area must be written in understandable English, with proper grammar and punctuation and no spelling errors. If the Staff has to make large efforts to get the zone into proper shape, it will not win the BOTM Award, whatever the other qualifications may be.
No overpowered or cheat equipment.
No over-sized quest rewards.
There should always be a balance between the size of the reward and how hard it is to get.
